GOD BLAST AMERICA! was a three-day industrial, noise, power electronics and martial music festival featuring 12 bands from Austria, Germany, Sweden, England and the United States, most of whom are affiliated with the German label Tesco and its distribution division. This festival is the first of its magnitude in the U.S., and it will be the first time many of the European bands have visited or performed here.

The organizers at Tesco USA have chosen a name and them for the festival which some interpret as being especially provocative, uncomfortably ambiguous, anti-American, pro-terrorism, and, in some cases, tantamount to physical violence itself. The use of extreme imagery is noting new in the industrial music scene, and while not all of the bands performing in the festival present controversial subject matter, many of them do. GOD BLAST AMERICA! is not for those easily offended.

We acknowledge, however, that this, in combination with the specific references to 9/11, may seem especially provocative, sensational, insensitive, and open to [mis]interpretation. But GOD BLAST AMERICA! is a music festival first and foremost - it is not politically motivated, it is not an advocation of past or future violence against any state, we are not anti-American, nor are we unsympathetic to those affected by senseless violence in New York or any other part of the world.

To the contrary - we witnessed and lived through the events of 9/11, and feel very fortunate as Americans and as New Yorkers to have the opportunity to exercise the American ideal of freedom of speech and artistic expression, and to bring this amazing event to those who will understand, appreciate, or at least be open to it.

These are extremely sensational, frightening and confusing times in which the lines no longer exist between things like airplanes and buildings and ideas like patriotism and jingoism, security and oppression, sensitivity and censorship, faith and fanaticism...and as such, it seems all the more relevant to sponsor an act of "cultural terrorism" from within this culture of terror we are living in.

Cultural terrorism in this context is meant as a celebration of the strength of the individual to create, to destroy, and to liberate oneself from dogmatic ideology; the idea that knowing that maybe there is no god, no good or evil, that dissent is an expression of patriotism, and the freedom that comes from knowing that anything is possible.

It is in this spirit that we invite you to look below the surface and discover for yourself what GOD BLAST AMERICA! is all about...
