live report
genocide organ + dagda mor + the grey wolves
05.04.02 : alte spinnerei : glauchau germany
i was very much looking forward to seeing genocide organ, dagda mor and the grey wolves live for the first time and it proved to be an amazing experience. the venue was spacious and except for some hassles with security regarding cameras, everything ran relatively smoothly. it was nice to finally meet people with whom i had only corresponded before, but it had been about 15 years since i had spoken german, so there was a lot of nodding and smiling in lieu of actual understanding. never underestimate the power of the altavista translation tool.
the grey wolves
the evening got started with the grey wolves, who, in this incarnation, were dave padbury with wilhelm herich of genocide organ. dave is a very charismatic and energetic performer who, donning an osama bin laden t-shirt, jumped in to the audience to ask random audience members whether they believed in jesus. the right answer got you a pocket bible inscribed with "jesus was a cunt." when i told dave i thought the grey wolves were a punk band, he said, "in our minds we are!" enough said - i hope to see them again soon.

dagda mor
dagda mor was up next - i like dagda mor's recorded material quite a bit, but being a one-man band, i wonder if the energy of andi's live performance might have been diminished somewhat by trying to do too many things at once. in general though, it was a solid performance and i enjoyed hearing some favorites. photos will be posted soon - there was a problem with the film processing.
genocide organ

after much anticipation, the four members of genocide organ finally took command of the stage wearing masks and standing in front of identical synths with one of their special videos playing on a large screen in the background - it was a captivating performance from beginning to end. they focused almost entirely on new material, and it sounds like what's in the works for the next album will be excellent.
in addition to the new, we were treated to some older favorites as well, such as vive la guerre. one of the members then put on some protective gear and started blow-torching a large piece of diamond plate on the stage - he made various cuts throughout the performance and the symbol from the band's hometown of mannheim started to take shape. this amazing spectacle culminated when the final cuts were made and the final piece broken loose just in time for the start of comandos.
after a short break, genocide organ returned to stir up the crowd with a magnificent rendition of white power forces - one of the highpoints of an already outstanding evening. the show ended on a more serene note with two g.o. members on their knees and holding a crucifix. praying for the souls of all the sinners who bore witness, perhaps? special thanks to all involved. -je
